Chocolates found to be good for health

Chocolate remains to be a favourite through out our lives. It is one thing both young and old crave for. Dark chocolate symbolises passion, romance, and happiness. Many researches have been done in the past and are still being done to explore the health aspect of eating chocolates.

Chocolate is rich in four hundred compounds ranging from various vitamins to minerals. Some of the major mineral salts present in chocolate are Potassium, Magnesium, Copper, Calcium and Iron. Compounds present in chocolate such as polyphenols, phytochemicals etc are found to be beneficial to health. They help in enhancing the immunity of the body and make its defence mechanism stronger. Of all the different chocolate kinds, dark chocolates are found to be best for health.

Since dark chocolate contains more cocoa, they are rich sources of flavanoids.
Though flavanoids are also present in red wine, green tea and apples, those that are found in dark chocolate contains more antioxidants. Thus dark chocolates help in preventing coronary irregularities, hypertension, dementia etc. Smokers who are fond of dark chocolates also have reasons to smile. A recent Swiss study has revealed that eating dark chocolates slows down the thickening of arteries. Thus the blood flow through their arteries gets smoothened, thereby decreasing the risk of dangerous clots.

Dark chocolate is also found to reduce blood pressure by ten times. It also increases our body’s sensitivity to insulin. The stearic acid present in dark chocolate will see to it that the cholesterol level does not shoot up. The oxidation of the bad cholesterol, LDL, also gets slowed down as part of the chocolate effect.

Dark chocolate contains stearic acid, the type that does not raise cholesterol nor harm the blood vessels. It also slows down the oxidation of LDL or bad cholesterol.

Milk chocolates have the power to boost the functioning of the brain. Theobromine, phenethylamine and caffeine present in white chocolates increases alertness and attention. However, it should be kept in mind that chocolate eating will ultimately result in weight gain as it contains lots of sugar and fat.
