Initial cure for tennis elbow

Firstly, reduce the inflammation by using an ice pack and holding on the area of pain for 20-30 minutes 2 to 3 times a day (wrapping a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel is just as effective).

Next step is stretching exercises; a set of three good cures for tennis elbow are as below:

Holding the arm straight out in front of you and locking the elbow:

1. Starting with the palm face down slowly stretch the hand up until the fingers are at right angles to the forearm. Hold for 1 minute.

2. With the palm face down slowly stretch the hand down until the fingers are at right angles to the forearm. Hold for 1 minute.

3. With the palm face up slowly stretch the hand down until the fingers are at right angles to the forearm (or as close as you can go). Hold for 1 minute.

These exercises will lengthen the forearm muscle fibers and reduce the tension on the tendon thereby allowing the injured area to heal and hence is a cure for tennis elbow. It is not uncommon the healing process to take 3 months, so follow the exercise regime regularly. When pain is felt during use, rest the arm briefly and commence the stretching exercise. Return to your activity but take frequent breaks.

Cure for tennis elbow is rest and avoidance of activities that exacerbate the conditions. The use of “counterforce” straps over the wrist is probably poor substitutes for rest.

In mild cases, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents may be helpful as a cure for tennis elbow. Injection of corticosteroids and a local anesthetic into the painful area may be of assistance in cases that have not been helped by conservative therapy. In some cases, surgical intervention may be indicated.

After the pain has resolved, a daily physical therapy program involving stretching of the tendons may be helpful as cure for tennis elbow. It is also useful to consult a professional about your playing technique and the grip size on your racket.

Expert’s opinion on cure for tennis elbow

The best suggestion is to rest it – avoid major sporting activities for example. However, it often needs a bit of treatment as well. Sometimes, simple anti-inflammatory help such as ibuprofen, if you know you can take these kinds of pills without upsetting your stomach as cure for tennis elbow. Ask the pharmacist for advice. Sometimes you need an injection of a steroid from your doctor. Before that I would suggest you try a homeopathic remedy – ruta. Get 30c strength from a pharmacy and take one a day for the next couple of weeks. It is safe and if the elbow improves over the two weeks then you have your answer.
