Cures for Fever Blister

Fever blisters are painful fluid filled blisters or “cold sores” that usually occur outside the mouth-on the lips, chin, and cheeks or in and on the nostrils. If they do occur inside the mouth, it is usually on the gums or the roof of the mouth.

Inside the mouth, fever blisters are smaller than canker sores, heal more quickly and often begin as a blister. About 50%**80% of the population have the virus (HSV1), which hides in the nerve cells of our face. They are VERY contagious.

Cold sore virus infects up to 90% of those older than 50. Only 20-40% of those infected develop the sores. The others can transmit the virus but never experience symptoms. They usually do not last longer than two weeks. If cold sores appear inside the mouth, usually it appears on the non-movable parts such as the roof, rather than the tongue or soft palate. Among these are calendula or goldenseal tea, myrrh, bearberry, eucalyptus, St. John’s Wort, sage, raspberry, peppermint, licorice, cankerroot, sage, wild geranium, echinacea, chamomile, aloe Vera juice or tea tree oil are few of the best Cures for fever blister. Many of these can be made into a tea and swished around the mouth before swallowing or spitting out.

Take an antiviral medication. A few prescription antiviral medications, such as Penciclovir, Acyclovir, and Famciclovir, have been approved for treatment of herpes simplex outbreaks. These medications do not cure herpes simplex, and they have not been shown to be effective in preventing outbreaks, but they can speed up healing and reduce the severity of an outbreak.

If you have very frequent outbreaks, your doctor may prescribe these medications to be taken daily, even in the absence of symptoms, to suppress future outbreaks. Suppression therapy may be effective for some people, but clinical studies have not shown widespread success. You may also have success with topical ointments, such as Abreva and Denavir can be few of the cures for fever blister. Both are designed to treat the viral infection topically and promote speedy healing. Abreva is non-prescription and is available over-the-counter.
