Fibromyalgia – test and diagnosis

Fibromyalgia is a comparatively recent term applied to a common rheumatic condition that was previously known as soft tissue rheumatism, fibrositis, or non-articular rheumatism. Some of the statistics claim that approximately 3 to 6 million Americans are affected by this troublesome condition. Women might be affected 4 fold more often as compared to that of the men.

Fibromyalgia will attack the soft tissue- the muscle, tendon, and ligament. Fibromyalgia is tenderness all over sufferer’s body with a positive painful affecting many specific points and that only helps diagnosing this condition. It could mimic many other health ailments; right from common allergies to CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), SLE (lupus), MS (multiple sclerosis) and many more.

When it comes to Fibromyalgia – test and diagnosis, unfortunately, there are no definitive laboratory testing that confirm Fibromyalgia as of now. The health care provider generally takes blood sample – but only to confirm other possible causative factors for the signs and symptoms one is suffering from. Having sorted out other possibilities, the health care provider will then focuses to observe if the patient has experienced widespread pains in all the 4 quadrants of the body for minimum 3 months, and displays many of the other common symptoms of FMS, including at least 11 painful tender points.

Whatever the cause is, Fibromyalgia troubles a lot but fortunately, there are ways to treat and to get relief from its symptoms. According to Ayurveda, certain herbs such as Sallaki and Guggulu are considered to be good for treating various pains and aches in the body. Some of the natural formulas such as Arthcare Capsules and Arthcare Oil are also said to have favorable effects in various joint pains.

Along with supplements, one has to take care of joints. Avoid exposing affected parts to chilly weather (such as air conditioned room) and restrict the diet. Include dark green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits that help removing the toxins from the body. Canned/junk and preservative food is to be avoided.
