Guide to Combination Skin
October 29, 2008
Combination skin is unique in all ways. It is not dry or oily. Neither is it normal. Combination skin is a blend of those three skin types. It is irritating to have oily skin on certain body parts and dry skin flakes on others. The cause of the oiliness found in combination type skin actually lies with the oil producing sebaceous glands. It creates more oil than required. The additional dryness associated with combination skin is mainly due to environmental causes. As we grow older, the skin loses its ability to maintain its wetness.
People with combination skin are likely to develop acnes and pimples on their oily skin parts and the skin on the dry areas get crumbled. Proper care for the combination skin involves keeping the dry areas moisturized and oily areas blemish-free. Always make sure that products meant for oily skin do not get wrongly applied on dry skin and vice versa.
It is advisable to clean combination skin at least twice a day with lukewarm water. Always go for mild cleansing agents that will help you in preventing dirt from clogging the skin pores. After cleaning the face, combination skin people can use a good toner that is preferably glycerine-based. This will not only exfoliate the skin surface but also will promote the growth of healthy cells.
If your combination skin type can be termed normal/oily, it is better to choose water-based moisturizers, rather than the oil-based ones. Cosmetic products containing benzoyl peroxide are found to be effective on such skin type.
If your skin is a dry/oily one, apply extra moisture to dry areas such as the skin beneath your eyes. The classically oily T-zone can be applied to the forehead, nose, and chin. People with combination skin should never dare to go out into the sun without cladding themselves in an appropriate sunscreen. It is also wise to buy such foundation creams that also serve as good sunblocks.
