Expectant mothers need more folic acid, iron and calcium when compared to others. If the mother happens to take in a deficient diet, the repercussions are sure to be found on the baby. In the first trimester of pregnancy, folic acid pills need to be strictly taken. They prevent the foetus from developing spinal problems. Those who find it extremely hard to take the prenatal vitamins during the initial few months should at least take the chewable vitamins given for children. Before taking any kind of supplement pills, pregnant women need to consult their doctor. If she happens to have any problem with one particular pill, the doctor will prescribe another similar pill of a different brand.

Along with the prenatal vitamins, expectant moms should also take a healthy diet. A healthy pregnancy diet is one that contains whole grains, fresh fruits, green veggies, fish, poultry, lean meats, fish, poultry and calcium rich foods. Always keep in mind that your baby is after all the result of what you eat during pregnancy. So do somehow gulp down those ‘huge’ prenatal vitamin pills. After all, it is for the benefit of your baby.
