How important are the natural antioxidants

Natural antioxidants work in unison for providing ultimate protection to your body. The five basic natural antioxidants are Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Coenzyme Q 10, Lipoic acid and Gluthatione.

Vitamin C is extremely important for the production of collagen. Collagen is the cellular glue that helps in binding the various cells together.

The connective tissue gets strengthened by the presence of Vitamin C. It also protects the body against cataract. Another major function of the C vitamin is to recharge the fat-soluble vitamin E when it becomes a free radical by itself. Vitamin C also helps in boosting our immune system.

Most of the vitamin supplements contain one form of E vitamin, namely, alpha-tocopherol. Along with Vitamin C, the E vitamin helps in the prevention of lipid oxidation in the blood stream. Thus, it helps in checking the occurrence of atherosclerosis.

Vitamin E is also believed to protect smokers from extreme bodily radical activities. Since it is found to protect nerve cells from damage, Vitamin E supplements get prescribed for patients with Parkinson’s disease.

Coenzyme Q 10 is a fat-soluble natural antioxidant. CoQ10 plays an active role in the production of energy fuel that keeps the body running. It is increasingly being used in the treatment of heart ailments in alternative medicine.

Lipoic acid is also critical for the production of energy. It helps in boosting the entire antioxidant defense network. It is involved in diabetic treatment and is also found to help in the prevention of cataract.
Gluthatione is yet another primary water-soluble natural antioxidant. This natural antioxidant is produced in the cells from three amino acids, namely,  cysteine, glutamic acid and glycine.

Gluthatione in itself is not well absorbed by our body. It helps in restoring Vitamin C with its antioxidant power. Other functions of Gluthatione include, rejuvenation of the immune function, detoxification of the blood, protection of the lungs lining, preventing the appearance of aging marks on the body etc.
