How nutritious is pomegranate
Man knows the nutritious value of pomegranates since the ancient days. The fruit, with a rounded hexagonal shape, is a native to the Middle East. Though the thick reddish outer-layered pomegranate is not a common fruit in some parts of the world and is thereby slightly expensive, it is worth the cost.It is a very healthy fruit that is more than three inches in diameter.
However, certain varieties of pomegranate attain a maximum diameter of twelve centimeters when ripe. On an average, a ripe pomegranate contributes 105 calories and about 25 grams of sugar. This fruit is a tremendous source of essential mineral salts such as potassium.
The fresh juice extracted from pomegranate is found to be rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants are found to be helpful in protecting the blood lipids from oxidation. Pomegranate juice also plays a major role in the diet prescribed for prostrate cancer patients.
It prevents the development of plaque within the arteries.The red juice of pomegranate is thus power-packed with nutritious elements.
The seeds of pomegranate, found within the fruit, are found to be beneficial in enhancing the immunity power of the body.
They also help in maintaining the balance of blood lipid levels in healthy proportion. Thus, this is one of such fruits that can be eaten along with its beneficial seeds. Many varieties of this fruit are now being made available.
Studies indicate that just one pomegranate fruit provides lots of nutrition. The most favorable factor is that this fruit is extremely low in calories. Apart from the rich presence of favorable mineral salts, pomegranate is also abundant in essential vitamins such as B and C.
Pomegranate also eases the digestive process, as it is an excellent source of fiber. Along with its high medicinal and nutritional value, the fact that its calorie count is extremely low makes it a wise option of obese people.
