How puberty affects acne formation
Acne is a very common skin irregularity. The presence of hair follicles and the sebaceous glands worsens this disorder. It is estimated that acnes, in the United States alone, has affected about seventeen million people. Acne usually results in the development of scars.
It is during the onset of puberty that acnes make their appearance on the skin surface. After all, acnes proclaim to the world that you are growing up into an adult.
The increased production of sex hormones, both in boys and girls during the teenage years, triggers the secretion of the sebaceous glands. This leads to increased oil production within the body. Excess production of sebum from the sebaceous glands of skin leads to the blockage of hair follicles. This hindered flow of oil results in the accumulation of harmful bacteria and dirt. As the pores have been blocked, they cannot be removed from the body.
This ultimately leads to the formation of acnes. Sometimes, blackheads pop out of such partially blocked skin pores. It is advisable not to scratch open these skin irregularities, however irritating they may be.
If squeezed out, they are likely to cause permanent marks that are called acne scars. Due to certain bodily irregularities, the hormones sometimes over stimulate the sebaceous glands and that leads to increased formation of acnes.
The bacteria thus accumulated are attacked by the white blood cells. This leads to inflammation around the affected area and rarely, red and swollen acnes appear on the skin surface. Propionibacterium results in acne formation. These bacteria get multiplied tremendously within no time and the resultant chemical reaction that occurs inside the hair follicle leads to inflammation around the acnes.
Personal body hygiene greatly helps in bringing the acne formation under control. It is important to wash the face twice a day with a good cleansing agent. Ensure that the face is cleaned with lukewarm water.
