How To Identify The Natural Fertility Signs
January 16, 2009
If you are one among the many women who have irregular menstrual cycle, it will be extremely difficult to monitor your fertility. Knowing the precise date of your ovulation will help you in gaining better control over your chances of conception.
The three natural indicators of fertility are Basal Body Temperature, Cervical Fluid, and Cervical Position. Though subtle, these changes are found to be reliable in keeping track of your ovulation period.
Basal Body Temperature (BBT) refers to the body temperature before the initiation of any activity. This can be calculated early in the morning, before beginning your day’s activities, using a basal thermometer. The body temperature of women will be generally lower during the early days of their cycle. A slight rise in this temperature (between 0.4 and 0.8 F) will indicate the commencement of ovulation. This temperature will remain high till the start of the menstrual flow. If, in case pregnancy is resulted, the temperature will stay up past the day that the next menstrual period was supposed to begin.
Ovulation changes the constitution of the cervical mucus as well. This thick fluid is produced by the inner walls of the cervical canal during the menstrual period. Immediately after the periods, women usually do not have any cervical mucus formed. Slowly, it starts appearing in a cloudy form.
Towards ovulation, the discharge is found to be clearer and slippery. During this “egg white” phase, if you find the discharge to stretch between the fingers, you are in your most fertile days.
The mucus can be checked by observing the discharge on your underclothes. As you check the mucus, keep an eye on its color. It will be white, creamy or opaque. During the fertile period, more cervical mucus will be produced.
During your cycle, the cervix changes it position. Keeping track of its changes will help you in finding the fertile periods. It is wise to check the position at the end of your periods preferably, at the same time everyday. As you hold the vaginal lips apart with one hand, the middle finger of the other hand can be used to locate the rounded cylinder shaped mass of cervix. During the beginning of the cycle and after ovulation, cervix will attain a lower position. During ovulation it will be at an elevated position.
