How to tackle bad breath
How often have you felt that people step back from you when you talk to them or somebody commented on your bad breath? If you have felt so, you are suffering from bad breath (halitosis).
Bad breath is a problem that is shared by millions of people across the country. It’s often difficult to suspect one’s bad breath, so ask someone who can give you an honest answer.
A small diagnostic test can reveal if you have bad breath. Try to scrape some saliva off from the back of your tongue and smell it after few moments. If that smells rotten, you have a bad breath.
Before getting down how to tackle bad breath, let us first know what are the main causes for bad breath in humans. Eating garlic, onion and fish causes bad breath in the mouth.
Tobacco chewing and smoking leaves bad smell in your mouth. The bacteria inside the mouth on stagnating leaves bad breath by releasing toxins, if the mouth is not cleaned timely.
Uncontrolled diabetes, sinus problems and upset stomach can also cause bad breath. Gum diseases and open cavities are the leading causes of bad breath.
Always remember to brush your teeth two times a day, first in the morning before the breakfast and second after the meals at night. If possible try to floss your teeth once in a day.
Drinking plenty of water promotes better saliva formation and washes away the bad bacteria from the mouth. To kill bacteria in the mouth, use anti- microbial mouthwashes.
Use a good tongue cleaner to remove mucous, bacteria and debris from the tongue with ease and efficiency. If you are not in habit of drinking too much of water, your saliva formation may be affected. Chew Xylitol based chewing gums because they promote better saliva formation, which washes away the bad bacteria from the mouth.
If bad breath persists even after taking all the precautions, consult a doctor to make sure that there is no other medical condition that could be causing it. Get your oral examination done to know the cause for your bad breath.
