How vinegar promotes health

It is true that vinegar is not a granary of nutrients. The presence of health-friendly phytochemicals is yet to be spotted scientifically in vinegar. But, one cannot rule out that vinegar helps in body healing. Vinegar offers support to the body in fighting serious health disorders such as osteoporosis, diabetes, and heart disease.

Vinegar is rich in acetic acid. Like all other acids, acetic acid is capable of increasing the rate of body’s absorption of certain minerals. The absorption of such nutrients from the food we eat is essential for ensuring our body’s well being. Vinegar should be included in the diet of those people whose body fall short of calcium. Vinegar enables increased absorption of calcium from the vegetables eaten by them. It is found to be extremely beneficial to older women who suffer from weakened bones. They need excess calcium for strong bones. If not absorbed in adequate amounts, calcium deficiency will result in a disorder called osteoporosis, which is characterised by thinning of bones.

Although dairy products are rich in calcium, the body of those women who are lactose intolerant will find it difficult to digest the sugar present in milk products. As a result, gastrointestinal problems pop up and eventually lead to cramping and diarrhoea

Though it is true that dark, leafy greens are good sources of calcium, certain compounds present in a few of them decreases calcium absorption. In such cases, vinegar comes to rescue. A few splashes of vinegar or tangy vinaigrette on their greens are enough to enable the absorption of the more valuable calcium.

Vinegar also helps in regulating blood sugar level. Diabetes treatment helps in normalising the blood sugar level. Vinegar is found to have powers to inactivate certain digestive enzymes that break down carbohydrates present in food into sugar. Thus vinegar ultimately results in the decreased pace of sugar absorption from the food into the blood. Slowing down of sugar absorption gives the insulin-resistant body more time to extract sugar out of the blood. Thus blood sugar level is prevented from rising so high.
