Michael Jackson sued again
The man, who loves to call himself ‘The King of Pope’, is dragged into yet another legal tangle as he allegedly owes a Bahraini prince seven million dollars. Michael Jackson will have to testify in person before the London High Court. It is in this context that his embracing of Islam makes many raise their eyebrows.
Robert Englehart, his lawyer, said that the pop star was withdrawing from his request to give evidence through video link due to medical reasons. This move was made since his doctors gave sanction for a two days’ travel.
It is Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, second son of the King of Bahrain, who wants Jackson to repay several advances made in his favor. The 50-year-old artist, however, has argued that he accepted the payments as gifts. Reportedly, the Bahrain prince had financially supported the star during his child molestation trial in 2005. He had apparently accepted the artist’s request for one-million dollars. The prince says it was he who paid the 2.2-million-dollar legal bill for the court case.
In return, Jackson had signed a contract that involved recording of albums, writing an autobiography and conducting of certain stage shows. As part of the deal, it was also mentioned that seven million dollars will be deducted from Jackson’s royalties. However, according to Sheikh Abdullah’s lawyers, Jackson later wanted the prince to release him from all financial obligations. The Sheikh considered it as nothing shorter than severe betrayal.
However, Jackson finds the case as one based on “mistake, misrepresentation and undue influence.” His lawyers claim that the signed projects never got materialized completely and the deal was apparently “one brick in a building which was never built.”
The relationship shared between the son of the real King and the assumed pop king was indeed a really close one. What is now left as testimony of their strained friendship is a musical project- a song written by the prince and recorded by Jackson. This recording will be played during the court trial.
