Tonsil stones are scientifically referred to as tonsillolith. They is also called tonsillar debris, sneeze nugget or calculus of the tonsil. ‘Tonsil stones’ are generally a cluster of calcareous matter. They are usually found in groups of more than one ‘stone’.

They generally appear at the rear part of the mouth. One may wonder what exactly constitutes tonsil stones. Well, a variety of factors result in this disturbing disorder. The factors that lead to its formation include dead white blood cells, oral bacteria and overactive salivary glands. Tonsil stones can thus be described as unevenly shaped, whitish or yellow foul-smelling nuggets of mucous and bacteria.

It is not at all advisable to get your tonsils removed completely. Such a complete removal of the tonsil stones is sure to make an adverse effect on the body especially if you happen to be an aged individual.
