What causes inflamed gums
Healthy gums are generally the result of proper dental hygiene. Many of us might have noticed blood oozing out from the gums while we brush our teeth. That is a warning signal, which means that our mouth needs to be cleaned, brushed and flossed more often.
Gingivitis is the most common gum problem that is characterised by inflamed gums. Improper cleaning of teeth causes gingivitis. If the teeth are not properly cleaned after meals, a thin layer of food and bacteria covers the surface. This bacterium makes the gums inflamed and spongy. The toxins that are produced by the bacteria that dwell in the plaque cause severe damage to the gums.
Bleeding gums is a serious problem. It either indicates the beginning of the destruction of the supporting tissue of the tooth. It might also signal to some other underlying systemic problems as well. Gum disease is caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that constantly forms on the teeth. These bacteria create toxins that damage the gums. If not treated properly, gingivitis leads to more serious forms of gum disease called periodontitis. This condition gradually results in the loss of the teeth.
If you find that the plaque has hardened on the surface of the teeth, it is advisable to seek the help of a dentist to clear it. Dentists will help in scraping off this harmful material from the teeth surface. Good oral hygiene is the best way to prevent bleeding gums, gingivitis and periodontitis. If decayed, the gums will eject high levels of harmful bacterial components into the bloodstream.
The skin of the oral cavity is known as Oral Mucosa, the skin that covers the oral cavity is rich in blood vessels. So, if harmful bacteria and other toxic elements that are produced by decayed gums, they easily get into the blood stream and are carried all over the body. It should be kept in mind that “to keep your teeth, take care of your gums.”
