What causes plantar warts
Plantar warts relates to those benign growths that are commonly found on the sole, heel, or ball of the foot. These are absolutely non-cancerous in nature. It is often caused by increased pressure on the affected skin layers as a consequence of prolonged standing or walking. A wart is an extremely common skin infection caused by human papilloma virus. In most cases, plantar warts get removed since they are irritating and are sometimes painful.
Anyone is prone to plantar warts attack. Studies indicate that this disorder is mostly found in children and young adults between the age group of twelve and sixteen. It is found that the incidence of infection is higher in people who share common bathing areas.
Plantar warts generally occur as the infectious human papilloma virus enters the body through tiny cuts on the skin surface or beneath the feet. The virus is often present on contaminated surfaces such as the tile floors of public locker rooms. Mostly, the virus that enters the body is made inactive by the antibodies present in the blood. But, in some cases, it leads to the formation of plantar warts.
Plantar warts are generally rough and spongy in appearance. They are mostly gray, brown, or yellow in color and have with dark pinpoints. These pin points are tiny capillaries that supply blood to the wart. It is always advisable not to scrape the wart. Scraping might lead to severe bleeding.
In structure, plantar warts are similar to icebergs. We are left to see only a small part of the wart above the skin. The part beneath the skin layer is considered to be almost twice the size of what appears above it. People with plantar warts might find prolonged standing to be painful. The presence of the “lump” beneath the foot causes irritation as well. If left untreated, plantar warts spread into clusters that are termed as mosaic warts.
