IMPLANON relates to a mode of birth control done in women. It involves the implementation of a flexible plastic rod that is placed under the skin of your arm. A single IMPLANON rod will serve as your mode of contraception effectively for a period of three years. IMPLANON is one such contraceptive tool that is free of estrogen. This plastic rod is thereby increasingly being used by those women whose body cannot tolerate estrogen.
IMPLANON is found to be extremely effective Studies indicate that the chance of a woman, who uses IMPLANON, to fall pregnant is less than on per cent. IMPLANON serves by preventing pregnancy in different ways. It primarily stops the release of egg from the ovary.
It also ensures that the cervical mucus get thickened in order to prevent the entry of sperm. The thickened cervical mucus serves as an effective barrier which checks the sperm from fertilizing the egg.
However, it remains a question of debate whether IMPLANON is effective in highly obese women. Certain medications are also found to make IMPLANON less effective. In such a case, it is always advisable to go for a secondary method of contraception other than IMPLANON in order to be on the safer side.
Another advantage of using IMPLANON is that most women can not even see this tool once it is inserted. Only you and your healthcare provider will know that you are using it. However, you can feel where this tool is placed by gently pressing the skin in the area where it has been inserted.
It is advisable to prevent yourself from touching this skin until it is healed completely in order to avoid the risk of infection. Once IMPLANON is successfully removed, your body will become ready to be pregnant again.
