What to eat for gaining weight

If you are a person who badly wishes to increase your weight, you might have encountered with the fact that most of the health-based discussions are done on how to put down weight and not on putting it up. But, though small in population, there do exist a minority lot who want to put on weight.

The basic dietary change to be inculcated if you want to increase your weight in a healthy way is to minimise the intake of junk and greasy foods. Such food stuffs are abundant sources of trans fats or saturated fats. It is important to ensure that you gain weight only through the intake of food stuffs that are good for your overall health.

Healthy fats that should be made part of your diet include omega-3 essential fatty acids. The rich sources of these essential fatty acids are fishes such as tuna, and salmon. Flax and walnuts are also excellent sources of these beneficial fatty acids. It should be ensured that the diet you take in is rich in protein content. Lean meats, fish, poultry, nuts, seeds and legumes are all excellent sources of protein. Healthy carbohydrate sources include fresh fruits, green vegetables and whole cereals.

It is advisable that you get used to the intake of protein powders and nutritional supplement drinks. These can be taken in the form of in-between meal snacks if you find that you are still falling short of calories. The flavoured protein powders can be blended with the drink of your choice for further improving its taste. It is strongly suggested to try an extra slice of whole-grain toast or peanut butter during breakfast.

Healthy nuts, dried fruits etc will certainly add many beneficial calories to your diet. Never should you try to boost the calorie level by taking in French fries instead of flax seeds. French fries, along with unhealthy fried snacks such as chicken nuggets and fish sticks, only help in making the matters worse.
