Why do you get sore breasts

Like most other parts of the body, breasts can also turn sore from time to time. This occurs not only in young women, but also in young men. Teenage girls are most likely to experience a slightly sore feeling as they wash their breasts during bath.

Whether it is a dull ache or a sharp pain, breast soreness might make one scary. However, you do not have to worry unnecessarily by relating the pain with breast cancer. Be relaxed for breast pain experienced by a teen rarely signals cancer.

On the onset of puberty, breasts, the milk-producing glands, start to get enlarged. Breasts are made of fat and other tissue that envelop the nerves, blood vessels, and milk ducts. The timing of breast development varies from one girl to another.

Most girls start developing breasts as they turn eleven. However, it is absolutely normal to develop breast between the age groups of eight and thirteen. The hormones that are present in the body, during the onset of puberty makes the breasts grow in size. It is common for girls to feel soreness in their breast during this stage.

Sore breasts are also a common phenomenon during the menstrual periods. This is mainly due the changes in the production of the hormones, estrogen and progesterone. It is a natural part of premenstrual syndrome.

Sore breasts may be accompanied by other symptoms such as mood swings, or cravings for certain foods, painful cramps in their stomachs, headaches etc. Just as other parts of the body like fingers and feet swell during menstrual days, breasts also tend to be filled with fluid. All that fluid makes the breast tissues expand and as a result the tissues in that area might experience tenderness.

Breast swelling and tenderness are also found to be one of the early signs of pregnancy. If you happen to notice any sort of discharge from any of the breasts, you should seek medical advise immediately.
