Why should your meals be protein-packed
All meals, whether they may be animal or plant in origin, do contain some protein in them. However, the amount of protein present in animal foods is found to be higher than those present in plants.
The protein present in animal food is of much higher quality, which provides space for increased growth and body maintenance.
However, growth and repair are not the lone functions done by protein in the human body. The protein that our body gets through the diet is also converted into carbohydrates and is thus used as energy-providers.
Thus protein also serves the purpose of a fuel. Adherence to a protein rich diet is increasingly becoming popular as part of weight loss programs.
The protein that the body gets through each meal gets used up for growth and maintenance purposes only if all the essential amino acids are present in it at the same time.
The presence of amino acids is generally determined by the quality of protein that is present in each meal. The presence of high quality protein helps in the effective maintenance of lean body weight.
This maintains the metabolism rate at a sufficiently high level that in turn results in the effective burning of fat calories.
Poor quality protein actually results in being used up for providing energy. It is based on the physiological and nutritional state of the body that it makes use of the available protein.
The protein in meals also gets converted into glucose. It is then stored for later needs. Such storage often takes place if more calories are consumed than what the body requires for the present needs.
How the protein that reaches the body through the meal is dealt with largely depends upon the present state of an individual’s body. It is advisable for a person trying to gain muscle or lose body fat, to include more quality protein in their daily diet.
